My work schedule has been crazy lately at the conference center, but Bobby and I managed to sneak away for a little birding over the weekend. We're having an irruption of Snowy Owls this winter, but we were lucky enough to see this sweet little Northern Saw-whet Owl this in Dakota County. Thanks go to our buddy Bob Dunlap for his photo!
This coming weekend is the International Festival of Owls in Houston, MN. Bobby and I have attended it the last three years, but I'm booked for a weekend conference, so we're having to pass on it this year. I'm cooking for 120 lawyers - if I hear one complaint, I'll sue!

Big news!
It's been a crazy winter! We've got an irruption of Snowy Owls here in Minnesota - people are seeing them all over the state, which is bizarre. Unfortunately, some of the earliest ones found south of their normal range were in pretty bad shape, suffering from malnutrition. Now, though, it seems we've got healthy ones from the top of the state all the way down to the Iowa border. I got my first Snowy Owl when I was in my early twenties, so it's not a lifer for me, but they sure are gorgeous birds, and last weekend Bobby and I took a drive to the other side of the Twin Cities to see one hanging out in Dakota County.
The other big news...Lily's pregnant! She and Alan are expecting a baby to arrive in June. She'd been looking kind of green the last few months, but now that she's into her second trimester, she's positively glowing. Alan seems a little shell-shocked, but I caught him looking at baby clothes in the Target sales flyer when he and Lily came over for brunch last Sunday morning. I'm going paint shopping with Lily sometime this week to help her choose colors for the room that will become the nursery. I'm going to be an aunt!
